Unhelpful Habits
We create habits all the time to make our lives easier. Imagine learning to read or drive and then losing the habit!
When forming a habit we practise it and practise it until it becomes automatic. When it becomes automatic it resides in the domain of the subconscious mind.
The subconscious mind does not decide whether it is a good or bad habit, it just runs it automatically, because you’ve practised it so much you must want it. Once the subconscious mind taken over the habit, it provides an ‘urge’ to get us to do it.
Often habits are comforting and linked to being relaxed and chilled out. They are essentially enjoyable at the time, no matter how unenjoyable their consequences may be.
To change a habit we can access the subconscious mind, using hypnosis and cancel the trigger that produces the ‘urge’ to do it. We can then find new, more helpful ways to provide the comforting, enjoyable feelings that the habit provided.
Below are some examples of the more common habits that can be changed.
- Habitual Coughs
- Nail Biting
- Hair Pulling
- Smoking
- Thumb Sucking
- Sleepwalking
- Overeating
