Frequently Asked Questions
Who can hypnotherapy benefit
Practically anyone, from any walk of life can benefit from hypnotherapy. It is very much a collaborative process, so people who really want to make a change and are prepared to take the necessary actions will get the greatest benefit.
What is hypnosis? Is it safe?
Hypnosis or trance as it is often referred to, is a perfectly natural, normal state of mind to be in. Most of us spend several hours a day enjoying trance states when we are watching movies, reading books, driving, walking or playing computer games etc. so it is perfectly safe.
Trance occurs when our minds are focused on something, for example a movie and we become absorbed in it to the exclusion of everything else.
The only difference between this trance and the one you experience in a hypnotherapy session is that you are guided by the therapist into trance state with the purpose of using it to make the changes you want to make.
How does hypnosis work?
Imagine that your mind has two parts, conscious mind which helps you do all the normal everyday activities and a subconscious mind that works behind the scenes regulating your body temperature, heart beat, all the chemical reactions that tho on in your body, filtering the information that comes in through your senses and storing it.
In hypnosis the conscious mind ‘moves to the side’ allowing direct access to the subconscious mind. This means that suggestions and desired changes can be made more easily without any conscious judgement causing doubt and disruption.
Will I lose Control?
No! You will be in control during the whole session so if anything is said that you disagree with, or that you feel is in bad taste you can simply open your eyes and leave the room. This is unlikely to happen as hypnotherapy is a collaborative process and any suggestions given will relate to the changes you want to make.
What can you expect a session to be like?
The session falls into two sections. The first involves getting very specific about what you want to achieve and where you are now, using positively focused talking therapy. From this we can identify the behaviours, strategies, skills, resources, beliefs and values that you have and that are needed to bridge this gap.
The second part involves using hypnosis to consolidate this first part of the session through suggestions and any relevant change strategies. You can sit back, relax and enjoy this section.
I like to work in a relaxed, informal environment, so hopefully there will be some fun and laughter along the way.
Does it work on line?
Yes, all you need is a comfortable, quiet space. Sessions are exactly the same and as effective as in person.
Does it work for children?
Absolutely, children are particularly good at going into hypnosis, and enjoy the process of learning how to use their minds more effectively. I have worked with children for many years and work with ages 7 and up.
How do I get started?
The best thing to do is to arrange a no obligation, free consultation. During this time you will have the opportunity to discuss what you would like to change and ask any questions you might have. I will give more information about the process and the ways New Perception can help you. By the end of this session you will have a much better idea of what to expect if you choose to book an appointment
